The Paniolo Heritage Center at Pukalani Stables will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. So get on over to Parker Ranch at watch the Rodeo and Horse Races!

The tradition of the Parker Ranch July 4th Rodeo and Horse Races stretches all the way back to World War II when cowboys and service men got together for their own free-spirited rodeo. Here are some images from the PPS Archives of the Parker Ranch cowboys and the Marines of the 2nd and 5th Divisions enjoying some Up Country fun. Cheehoo!

For more on the Marines and when Parker Ranch became Camp Tarawa, visit this link to an old Waimea Gazette article by Gordon Bryson titled “Waimea Remembers
Camp Tarawa”.
